Judging

Becoming an Official

We are always in need of more licenced officials at BSG. This is an interesting job, which is vital to be able to run galas and you will be able to watch lots of the swimming!

Officiating qualifications start at J1 in which people train to be qualified to timekeep and judge turns. A J2 qualification includes stroke judging and placing. J2S is the qualification which allows officials to start galas and you can even go on and qualify as a referee.  Swimming officials are often able to claim travel expenses to meets, so this is also a great way of keeping down the cost of swimming.  They are provided with food on race days by the Meet organisers, and often receive a gift of a bottle of wine, or box of chocolates as a thank you for their time.  BSG has a fantastic team of officials, and you would be most welcome to join the team.

If you are interested in becoming an official or to find out more about the process, please either speak to one of our officials or email Steve Witcombe at [email protected]. You don’t need any experience at all to do this job as there will be a training course and then follow up time on poolside to gain relevant experience.
